THE FORGOTTEN HARRY PIERPONT
Harry Pierpont was one of
the major members of the
John Dillinger Gang.
If history had the chance
to play itself out, he could have
been a Public Enemy himself and
may have surpassed Dillinger in legend.
He lead his gang's escape from the
Michigan City, Indiana prison on
September 26, 1933 with the help of
John Dillinger. Then broke John out
of the Lima, Ohio jail to repay the
favor, killing Sheriff Jess Sarber
in the process. Dillinger joined
the Pierpont gang on a Midwest crime spree that
lasted four months. It ended with the
gang being captured in Tucson, Arizona
on January 25, 1934. Pierpont and two
of his Michigan City escape party,
Russell Clark and Charles Makley were
eventually sent to Lima to stand trial
for the murder of the Sheriff. Pierpont
and Makley were sentenced to die in the chair.
Clark received life imprisonment. Harry Pierpont
was the only Dillinger gang member
to die in the electric chair...
